New Team Parking Time:

Effective with the Unadilla event, team semis will be parked at 9:00 AM and privateers at 9:30 AM.  Please plan accordingly.

Restricted Areas:

The Starting line, Signal and Staging Areas are restricted areas.  These areas are becoming increasingly crowded with non-competing riders, industry support representatives, agents, etc.  The Starting Line and Signal Areas are not for casual viewing - they are work areas and must be respected as such.

Rule 3.14.b states that "[e]ach rider may have only one crew member accompany them to the starting gate."  No other persons are permitted in this area.

The same policy applies to the Signal Area and Staging Area - these areas are restricted to crew members with either a signal pass or an "M" card.  No other persons should be in these areas.

Effective immediately:

● Riders not competing in the moto are restricted from the Starting Line, Signal and Staging Areas.

● During the motos, Crew members must have a #5 pass accompanied by the appropriate Signal Pass for that class in order to access the Starting Line.

● During the motos, Crew members must have a #5 pass accompanied by the appropriate Signal Pass for that class or an "M" pass in order to access the Signal and Staging Areas.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Improper License Use:

For the second week in a row a rider license was confiscated and the rider fined for improper use of the license.  Credentials are non-transferable and riders may not allow another person to use their license, especially to access the track and infield.  This is a highly restricted area, and riders who abuse this privilege run the risk of permanent confiscation of their license.

Gate Selection:

In Technical Bulletin 2009-05, the Staging Rules were revised to allow the mechanic to take the bike to the staging area without the rider being present.  The new rule also allows the mechanic or some other rider designee to make the gate selection in the event the rider is not present.  This rule was changed for the convenience of the riders to give them more time to prepare in their pits.  However, if a rider is not present at the time called upon to select a gate, the mechanic/designee MUST make the selection or the rider will be skipped.  Gate selection will not be held for a rider not present when called upon to make the selection.  Selections must be made quickly.

Victory Laps:

Due to live TV constraints, riders must proceed directly to the podium after winning a moto.   This is a great opportunity to thank sponsors - an opportunity missed if the rider takes a victory lap.  Although it has been the rich tradition of our sport for the victors to take a victory lap, a tradition continued today in Supercross, motocross tracks are much longer, and riders who take victory laps lose 4-5 minutes of prime interview time.   As tempting as it may be to thank the fans, please remember to proceed to the podium to thank your sponsors.

2010 Proposed Rules:

Your opinions are important to us.  Accordingly, MX Sports is requesting proposals for the 2010 Rules for Professional Motocross Competition, on topics including but not limited to race format, technical rules and licensing.  Please forward suggestions and proposals to Jeff Canfield, jcanfield@mxsports.com.

Steel City Pink Race:

We have been asked by Shasta Johnson to forward this information onto you:

The Steel City Race is going to have a breast cancer awareness theme, including educational and fundraising elements, with the proceeds going to my Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day crew team. In case you are not familiar with this event. The Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk is a 60-mile walk over three days to raise money for breast cancer. The net proceeds will support the combined efforts of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) Breast Cancer Fund in their mission to fund access to care and find a cure for breast cancer. My team be serving as a crew members, giving their all in service to the walkers for three days.

To help raise awareness, we am asking all the sponsors, riders, crew, staff and fans to show their support by wearing pink on race day and incorporating pink into anything they can including bike graphics, wearing pink goggles, using a pink lanyard for your credential, using a pink ribbon umbrella at the starting gate (I will have these at the gate), wearing a pink ribbon lapel pin, etc. We are working on a jersey graphic and should have more information on that soon.

To help raise money, We are asking for donations that can be used in a live auction or raffle to raise money.  For the live auction, we have planned to have 5 prize packs (for lack of a better term). Each prize pack is going to be themed around the bike manufacturer and the riders/teams related to them. Items donated for this should be autographed and be uniquely representative of your product and the rider. Depending on the donations, there may be more than five "prize packs" with different themes.

For the raffle, we  will have 10 Lucas Oil drums that are filled with various prizes. If you would like to donate items for this, they should be small items like gift certificates, gloves, goggles, glasses, t-shirts, hats, etc. We are looking for 10 items.

What we have planned so far...

1. Before the race there will be an online contest to name my crew team, with the winner receiving 2 passes to the race.

2. A limited edition rubber bracelet will be available for purchase

3. Big ticket silent auction in the Lucas Oils booth

4. Live Auction during intermission (5 bike manufacturer themed prize packs).

5. 10 Lucas Oil drums filled with donations will be placed around the track at points of interest, vendor booths, hospitality locations, etc. where fans can deposit their raffle tickets. Each fan wearing pink, will get 1 free raffle ticket to win one of the 10 Lucas Oil drums. Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

6. There will be roving raffle ticket/rubber bracelet sales

7. There will be a 10x10 educational booth that will also sell raffle tickets and rubber bracelets

8. Riders, Teams, Sponsors, Vendors and Staff members will be incorporating the pink theme.

Please let me know if you would like to participate in some way. In addition to donations of product, we are also in need of volunteers to assist at the race.
